TRADITIONAL TIBETAN THANGKA PAINTING
Thangka is a portable Buddhist scroll painting, created by following strict canonical rules. The primary task in learning traditional thangka painting is to study and understand the different proportions of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and others, in accordance with classical iconography. Thangka painters spend a long time learning to draw based on schemes before they can begin freehand drawing with correct proportions. Repetition of drawings is an important part of the learning process, helping to understand the uniqueness of the iconometric system and making the continuous measurement and determination of proportions a fundamental part of the overall work process.
